On Friday, 21 February 2025, the Capricorn Group ChangeMaker Programme, an employee-driven social investment initiative, partnered with Pick n Pay Namibia and Wutow Trading to amplify their community-based corporate social responsibility efforts in aid of Tee Di Helping Hands at the Five Rand Camp in the community of Okahandja. This collaboration aims to create an impact by addressing pressing social issues and uplifting the lives of those in need.

The collaboration with like-minded partners Wutow Trading and Pick n Pay Namibia, a subsidiary of the Ohlthaver & List Group, aimed to address social issues and help build a better future for Namibia's children. As ChangeMakers, employees of Capricorn Group donated much-needed school uniforms, school shoes, and essential stationery to 36 vulnerable San children at Tee Di Helping Hands in 5 Rand Camp, Okahandja. Capricorn Group's IT department also donated a laptop to support the administrative and educational efforts at Tee Di Helping Hands.

Marlize Horn, Group Executive: Brand & Corporate Affairs at Capricorn Group, said, "The work that Tee Di Helping Hands are doing is so important in supporting especially the marginalised community, and through their selfless efforts to care for and educate these children with minimal resources, they are giving them hope for a better future.  By partnering with Wutow Trading, Pick n Pay Namibia, and our employees, we are not just giving away goods but investing in hope, dignity, and opportunities for the next generation. This collaboration aligns with our purpose of being Connectors of Positive Change and ensures our efforts are more impactful."

Capricorn Group employees, in their role as ChangeMakers, make positive changes in their communities through various outreaches. They volunteer their time, contribute from their own resources, and unite to support the most vulnerable in our communities.

The ChangeMaker initiative is constantly growing, and now, thanks to our key partners, we are also making an even bigger impact. Wutow Trading, in collaboration with their client Unilever SA, donated hygiene and cleaning products worth more than N$7 000, and Pick n Pay Namibia's Okahandja branch announced a donation of daily bread valued at N$3,897.00 each month to support Tee Di Helping Hands in feeding the children, which will also improve their learning. Together, these partnerships are making a real difference.

"Wutow and Unilever are proud to work with Capricorn Group to help marginalised communities," said Karin Mouton, Group Sales Executive of Wutow Trading. "This partnership shows how powerful teamwork can be. When businesses, employees, and communities unite, we can create real change and bring hope to those in need."

The ChangeMaker initiative helps communities by supporting people who want to make a difference. Tee Di Helping Hands was started by Defney Kasongo, who lost her job during COVID-19 but did not give up. She used her connections to help the marginalised community of Five Rand Camp to ensure that children in need receive support and education.

"We are very thankful for the support from Capricorn Group and its partners," said Defney Kasongo from Tee Di Helping Hands. "The donations of school supplies, hygiene packs, and daily bread are more than just help. They bring hope to our children and help secure their future."

Graeme Mouton, Managing Director of Pick n Pay Namibia, emphasised the importance of corporate responsibility. He said, “At the O&L Group, we are dedicated to giving back to Namibian communities. This collaboration with Capricorn Group and Wutow, one of our trusted suppliers, proves that working together for a common goal can create a bigger impact. In this case, we've ensured that children have the most basic resource – bread to succeed in their studies."

This collaboration with like-minded partners has helped 36 children with educational materials, meals, and much-needed hygiene products. This effort demonstrates the power of collaboration to make a difference when we connect for positive change.
