The 2023 Capricorn Group Schools Netball League launched on Tuesday, 16 May 2023, with representatives from various participating schools and the Namibia Schools Sports Union (NSSU) attending. v over in 2019. Capricorn Group has confirmed its continued support and commitment to the league.
“We are proud of our contribution towards the promotion and development of netball over many years in Namibia by offering a platform for netball players to compete for a national title. Netball, and sports in general, allows the youth to build character and learn about teamwork, commitment and hard work. We are excited to launch the 2023 season of the Capricorn Group Schools Netball League and are pleased with the large number of netball teams from across Namibia that entered the league. Capricorn Group will continue to support sports development, in particular women's sports .“ said Marlize Horn, Group Executive: Brand & Corporate Affairs from Capricorn Group.
A total of 69 teams from eight regions, namely Khomas, Karas, Hardap, Otjizondjupa, Kunene, Otjikoto, Omaheke and Erongo, regions will compete in the league. Matches will occur in Stampriet, Rehoboth, Outjo, Otjiwarongo, Swakopmund and Windhoek. The Capricorn Group Schools Netball League consists of 690 players representing 24 schools, of which 11 are public schools , and 13 are private schools. There are six different age categories, ranging from Under 12 to Under 19, contending for the title of the 2023 Capricorn Group Schools Netball League national champions.
“Sports are considered a key tool in developing youth in our communities, contributing to their physical, psychological and social well-being. We are excited to start with the 2023 Capricorn Group Schools Netball Super League and look forward to some exciting matches,“ said Mrs Liezel Garbers, Chairperson of Capricorn Group Schools Netball League.
The league is endorsed by the Namibian School Sport Union (NSSU) as the national schools' netball league for A-teams.
